Genesis' Wind & Wuthering-Tour 1977 wird bis Anfang Juli ein halbes Jahr in Anspruch nehmen, wobei es eine fast einmonatige Pause im April Phil ermöglicht, zum einen eine weitere Session für Brian Eno zu absolvieren, und er zum anderen mit Brand X die Zeit für eine Release-Show zur Veröffentlichung des Morrocan Roll-Albums im Londoner Marquee Club nutzt. Ein Stück wird ein Zuhause auf dem Live-Album Livestock finden. Für weitere Brand X-Live-Aktivitäten ab Juni wird Kennwood Dennard als Collins-Ersatz engagiert...

Nach Abschluss der Genesis-Tour, die auf dem kommenden Live-Album Seconds Out dokumentiert ist, beteiligt sich Phil im Sommer als Percussionist an Aufnahmen der Formation Café Jacques, die von Rupert Hine - für den er später noch öfter tätig sein würde - produziert werden. Er lässt es sich auch nicht nehmen, für letzte Brand X-Live-Aufnahmen zum geplanten Livestock-Album die Band beim Gig im Hammersmith Odeon an den Percussions zu unterstützen und einen Monat später wieder als Haupt-Drummer neue Tracks zu spielen...

Die Tour von Genesis endet Anfang Dezember, und damit auch Phils erste Ehe. Um selbige zu retten, folgt er seiner Noch-Frau nach Kanada, was die Zukunft seiner musikalischen Laufbahn, insbesondere bei Genesis in Frage stellt. Seine Auszeit sollte drei Monate dauern.
