    Habe das Album (Deluxe Edition) und habe Album und Making Of-DVD nun einmal durch.


    Erster Eindruck: Das alles ist wirklich sehr sehr gut. Die Musik hat so viele verschiedene Facetten, und es gibt innerhalb des Albums haufenweise Querverweise. Um das alles zu erfassen, sind aber weitere Hördurchgänge erforderlich.

    Geht mir ähnlich. Ich habs noch nicht komplett durch, aber die 1. CD ist schon mal beeindruckend. Natürlich nach Morse Prog Muster, aber das wollen die Fans ja....wenn da Transatlantic draufstehen würde, wäre ich nicht enttäuscht.....wirklich sehr gut....


    Habe sowieso das Gefühl, dass er jede Menge Songs für Transatlantic hat, die aber gerade halt pausieren und er das Material nicht auf Halde liegen lassen wollte. Dazu ist es aber auch wirklich zu gut....


    Muss man wie Mutzel aber wirklich noch öfter hören, zu viele Details. Dagegen war der Vorgänger seichter Pop....


    Hmmm muss ich ihn mir doch in Köln nächstes Jahr anschauen ?

    Die Scheibe lief jetzt auch ein paar Mal bei uns und ich verstehe nicht in aller Gänze, was da oben steht. Aber ich glaube, ich habe es gefühlt :eek:. Ein Doppelalbum in Spielfilmlänge was derart locker flockig durchlaufen kann, ist mir noch nie in den Gehörgang gekommen. Als ob man Transatlantics Whirlwind mit der Konsumierbarkeit des Flying Colors-Debüts kombiniert. Es wird ein Füllhorn an soliden musikalischen Ideen und Themen ausgeschüttet und anstelle eines Albums mit 4 kürzeren und einem 30min-Brocken wie zuvor, entsteht eine durch und durch kohärente Albumerfahrung (wo gerne mal Querverweise kommen dürfen ;) ). Jetzt muss man überlegen, ob es den Vorschussloorbeeren gerecht wird. Ich sehe auch, dass dieses Album ganz weit oben in der Rangliste des jüngsten Morse/Portnoy-Outputs steht. Und ja, dieses Album zerquetscht den aktuellen Dream Theater-Witz zwischen kleinem Finger und Daumen. Ob man jetzt zustimmt, dass es auch frühe Dream Theater-Meilensteine oder alte Spock's Beard-Alben übertrumpft, ist schwer (Octavarium sicher nicht :p). Der Vergleich kommt da vielleicht irgendwann ins Hinken. Selbst wenn ich persönlich das Album sicher "mehr" im Sinne von "öfter" genießen werde als "Tommy" oder "The Wall", komme ich ohne den Vergleich aus. Ich persönlich halte es einfach für ein nachhaltigeres Morse-Werk als Momentum oder The Grand Experiment, im Sinne von Wiederhörwert. Eine große Stärke liegt ganz klar beim Musikerkollektiv. Portnoy als Hausdrummer kann man zunehmend seine Gesangsbeiträge abnehmen, aber vor allem Gitarrist und Keyboard-Spieler liefern Zutaten, die in Summe schlicht ein stimmiges Bild geben. Das gilt ganz ganz besonders für den mehrstimmigen Gesang.


    Nun zu einer Abstufung innerhalb des Albums. Ich finde, die Mehrzahl der Höhepunkte findet bereits auf der ersten CD statt. Ich habe mir überlegt


    Overture
    Makes No Sense
    Draw The Line
    The Ways Of A Fool
    So Far Gone


    zusammengeschnitten, würden einen gewaltigen Eargasm in der Form früherer "Morse does Supper's Ready" ergeben. Klingt jedenfalls mächtig kurz hintereinander. Ich kann auch völlig nachvollziehen, dass man dieses Album am Stück spielen will.


    Wenn ich jemanden für's Wochenbett finde, bin ich in Aschaffenburg. Sicherlich so gut vorbereitet wie nie zuvor bei Morse. :topp:

    The Similitude Of A Dream ist eine ausgereifte Darbietung (Perfektion?) des typischen Morse-Kompositionsmusters. Das akzeptiere ich, ich bin der letzte, der mit Morse Probleme hat.

    The Similitude Of A Dream ist eine ausgereifte Darbietung (Perfektion?) des typischen Morse-Kompositionsmusters. Das akzeptiere ich, ich bin der letzte, der mit Morse Probleme hat.

    THE ASTONISHING hat verschiedene Schwächen, die TSOAD nicht hat.
    Angefangen bei der Tatsache, dass es eben keine "Bandsache", sondern mehr oder weniger das Projekt zweier Musiker (Petrucci, Rudess) ist. Dies wirkt sich negativ auf die Bandbreite beim Songwriting aus.
    Schlagzeug und Bass (wenn man ihn denn mal hört) klingen bei TA deutlich schlechter, aber auch das gesamte Arrangement der Rhythmusgruppe ist auf TSOAD deutlich vielseitiger. Man merkt hier, dass Drummer und Bassist echten Einfluss auf die Songs hatten, während es Mangini und Myung nie schaffen, den Songs ihren Stempel aufzudrücken.
    Die Neal Morse Band hat vier (!) verschiedene Sänger, während James LaBrie alles alleine singen muss, was dem Album auch nicht gut tut.
    Last but not least hat TSOAD die bessere Länge, während TA für mich zu lang ist.


    Ich erkenne an, dass Dream Theatre mit TA etwas Neues versucht haben. Das Ergebnis ist aber eher durchwachsen.
    Der Konkurrent aus dem Morse Lager macht mir deutlich mehr Freude.
