    Marillion unleash video for ‘A Friend For The Earth’, coinciding with Earth Day 2022 and following the release of their chart-topping album ‘An Hour Before It’s Dark’.

    If you dive into Marillion’s extensive catalogue, you will find several songs that take on the topic of environment and humanity’s impact on it. The 1989 album and title track ‘Seasons End’ is only one of many examples.

    Now, over 30 years later, in times of ‘Fridays For Future’, an ongoing pandemic and a general big uncertainty about the future of humanity, the topic does not lack relevance – quite the opposite!

    Coinciding with Earth Day 2022, Marillion today release a new video accompanying what is chapter two and three of ‘Re-program The Gene’, a song released on their new album ‘An Hour Before It’s Dark’ on March 4th, 2022.

    Und vielleicht ein bisschen weniger Cruise to the Edge, könnte man hinzufügen. Natürlich hat es seine Widersprüche, wenn eine Rockband auf Tour, die durch Stromverbrauch und Transport immer klimaschädlich sein wird, über Umweltprobleme singt. Mit diesen Widersprüchen müssen wir alle leben, wenn wir uns nicht auf freiem Feld vom Fallobst ernähren wollen. Aber mit einem Haufen Leute, die dafür von überall her anfliegen, auf eine Kreuzfahrt zu gehen (was immerhin zu den klimaschädlichsten Reiseaktivitäten zählt), ist dann vielleicht doch etwas sehr inkonsistent.

    Marillion haben tolle Alben und nicht so tolle bzw. durch- oder unterdurchschnittliche. Das neue Album gehört dazu. Bei den "tollen" Alben war es immer so, einmal gehört und die genialen Melodien erkannt (z.B. Brave, Sounds that can't be made, Marbles).

    Die Melodien fehlen mir hier. Geschwurbel - brauch' ich nicht unbedingt.

    Also die (genialen) Melodien auf "Sounds" such ich heute noch. Da gefällt mir "An Hour before it's dark" oder F.E.A.R. noch besser (wenn auch beide nicht an frühere Großtaten - auch der h-Ära - herankommen).

    Antwort auf die ernsthafte Frage: Ja! The Great Escape, Made Again, Bridge, Hard As Love und alle anderen. Ja! Ging sofort in Herz & Hirn. Vermutlich weil ich deutlich jünger war und die Dichte an CDs und Vinyl im Regal noch wesentlich geringer.

    Und *Sounds that can't be made* finde ich klasse. Tja, der menschliche Geschmack ist unergründlich... Aber *Montreal* und *Rain* gehören - für mich - zu den Stücken, die mich berühren und die ich mit auf die Insel nehmen würde, nur um festzustellen, dass ein Messer und die Bibel (für die Stechmücken) vermutlich mehr Sinn gemacht hätten...
