TotW [02.01.-08.01.12]: MIKE RUTHERFORD - Smallcreep's Day Suite I-VII

Nicht with a little help of Ant? Sei´s drum: Super, Mike!
ZitatSteve Hackett's List of Music You Should Hear
'Ravel: Boléro'
Ravel's 'Bolero' was the first album I bought as a 12-year-old. I used to imagine conducting this--a classical piece of music that achieves demonic trance level.'Ad Nauseam', Derek & Clive
Peter Cook and Dudley Moore luckily broke all the bounds of good taste with this improvised attempt at humour with the trousers off. Ideal for drunken parties (unless any women are present!).'Bluesbreakers With Eric Clapton', John Mayall
I've conducted a survey amongst fellow rock guitarists over the years and we all agree that this was Eric Clapton's finest hour. Aptly described by Neil Slaven's liner notes as "beautiful savagery." The Bible of electric blues playing.'Revolver [UK]', the Beatles
'Revolver' contains rock's most highly evolved song in "Eleanor Rigby." The rest of the tunes are merely... great! Lyrics to break your heart and die for; lost love, old age & mysticism combine to make it the most broad-based Beatle album.'Segovia Collection (Vol. 1): Bach', Andrés Segovia
I never believed it was possible to play so much in one go on one guitar. Brilliant playing, brilliant writing--pure music devoid of hype & image. Luckily I'm not alone as a Bach fan. Music at its most proficient.'East-West', the Paul Butterfield Blues Band
Paul Butterfield--a completely under-sung master of blues harmonica. The angriest playing imaginable and therefore the most exciting, and a player to give all rock guitarists a run for their money...'Roger the Engineer', the Yardbirds
The young Jeff Beck exploding sound that sent shivers down my spine. Beautiful lyrical playing--occassionally equalled, but rarely surpassed.'City of Glass: Stan Kenton Plays Bob Graettinger', Stan Kenton
Bob Grattinger did the arrangements for this evocative description of city life. The term clusters is the best way to describe his chords which sound like a very well organised traffic jam.'Illuminations', Buffy Sainte-Marie
Buffy sounds like no other female singer on the planet--a one-off. We need her protest songs more and more on this crazy planet--long live the queen of music.'Hejira', Joni Mitchell
'Hejira' was one of a series of albums Joni did which were nudging at jazz. This was most people's introduction to the incredible Jaco Pastorius.'Live-Evil', Miles Davis
'Live-Evil' was a rare attempt at atonal music which manages to be both anarchic yet cohesive. As each instrument speaks you'd be hard pushed to identify it.'Smallcreeps Day', Mike Rutherford
'Smallcreeps Day' combines a great team that only gathered for this one album--note-perfect and flawlessly executed.
