    ...schade, dass Simon Collins nicht singt...der Gesang klingt nicht wirklich gut...ziemlich gequält...

    Dave Kerzner hat am 06.03. bei Instagram gepostet, dass er Ende des Jahres "vielleicht" etwas "SOC-related" machen möchte. Es wäre darüber schon diskutiert worden... ich frage mich mit wem genau und bedeutet das, dass sie sich doch nochmal zusammenraufen? Was meint Ihr?

    Vermutlich. Allerdings hat er im März ein Foto von einem Mischpult gepostet.

    Komische Sache... bei Peter hat man wenigstens das Gefühl dass er fleissig tausend andere Dinge macht. Bei Simon hab immer Sorge, dass er sich selbst verliert... er hat ja mal geschrieben, dass er eine schwere Zeit mit Depression und Diabetes hatte... ich hoffe er findet den Weg zurück in die Musik.

    Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the signing of the multi-talented Simon Collins for the release of his new album, "Becoming Human". The new album is anticipated for release in fall 2020. More information will be released this summer.

    - Simon Collins has been grappling with heady subjects while writing his new album, "Becoming Human". He can spend hours discussing astronomy, and he loves a good conspiracy theory too, but the rollercoaster that we all face as we become human, is the focus of the album's theme. The album ultimately is a conversation about surrender, renewal, uplift, and mortality.

    "I've spent a long time thinking about this theme, even the production itself was a micro life-cycle," says Simon.

    "There's a school of thought that believes humans become spiritual, but I think it's the other way around. To me, we are spiritual beings who are learning to become human. Are we a way for the universe to know itself? Or is the universe a way for us to know ourselves?" Simon asks.

    Produced, mixed and Mastered by Robbie Bronnimann, the album has a fresh sound that is current yet includes elements of classic song writing. Simon says, "This body of work reflects a deep, wild existential journey and sonic evolution. The soundscape explores a progressive fusion of electronic and rock Influences. A cross-pollination of genres melding mental atmospheres with spacey ambient moods and classic to progressive pop song craft. All in all the result is a futuristic progressive sounding album."

    Guest musicians on the album include original Sound Of Contact guitarist Kelly Avril Nordstrom, the outstanding bass player Gaz Williams, and lastly guitarist Robin Boult. Robbie Bronnimann also brought his bespoke keyboard and sound design to the mix. Simon plays keys too, along with drums and all vocals. Growing up around the band "Genesis" with his father, Phil Collins, Simon naturally gravitated towards the drums as a child. "It's part of my musical DNA," he says.

    "Robbie and I collaborated on many of the songs, the album also features co-writes with Dave Kerzner and Kelly Avril Nordstrom on songs I initially brought to the mountain of material earmarked for the second "Sound of Contact" album," adds Simon.

    "Becoming Human" is Simon's fourth solo release, following his debut "All of Who You Are" (2000), sophomore effort "Time For Truth" (2005), and his third album "U-Catastrophe" (2008). In 2010, Collins co-founded the critically acclaimed band Sound of Contact. Featuring Simon on lead vocals and drums, the rest of the band included keyboardist/co-producer Dave Kerzner, guitarist/bassist Kelly Avril Nordstrom, and bassist/guitarist Matt Dorsey. The band received the Limelight Award (essentially "Best New Band") at the Progressive Music Awards in 2013. Their debut album, "Dimensionaut" ended up being the fastest selling debut album by any band in the 20 year history of Inside Out Music.

    So, with Becoming Human under his belt, an album based on the many aspects of the human condition, there is a hint of transformation through storytelling, a glimpse of evolving consciousness. "My own," Simon says. -

    Ich würde mich wirklich RIESIG freuen, wenn das neue Album ähnlich gut wie Dimensionaut würde. Das hoffe ich zwar, glaube aber nicht so recht daran, da es ja Produkt einer Band war, die so leider nicht mehr exisitert.

    Ich höre es mir Dimensionaut immer noch gerne an (und sollte das bald wieder mal tun), weil ich es als zeitgemäßen Prog empfinde. Hinzu kommt, dass mich sowohl Schlagzeug als auch Gesang so sehr an Papa Collins erinnern, dass ich es fast als Genesis-Album empfinde, was es stilistisch natürlich nicht ist.

    Dave Kerzner war kürzlich auf Instagram live und da habe ich ihn einfach mal gefragt, wie es Simon geht. Vor lauter Aufregung, dass er meine Frage aufgegriffen hat, habe ich den Anfang nicht so mitbekommen aber danach meinte er, dass die Leute immer denken würden, dass bei Sound of Contact kein neues Album mehr kommen würde. Aber das wäre so nicht richtig. Die Jungs sind alle weiterhin miteinander befreundet, jeder hat immer noch viele Ideen für ein weiteres Album und die Bereitschaft, doch nochmal etwas zusammen zu machen, sei sehr groß. Da wird also noch etwas kommen. Dave hatte ja Ende letzten Jahres schon geschrieben, dass 2020 etwas SoC-related kommen würde...
