Mit dem ‚Genesis Revisited II‘-Doppelalbum katapultiert sich Steve Hackett in seine musikalische Vergangenheit zurück, die er vor allem bei Konzerten ab sofort gebührend zelebriert. Dazwischen entstehen allerdings auch die beiden Rock-Alben ‚Wolflight‘ und ‚The Night Siren’…

Für das Jahr 2012 hat sich Steve Hackett für alle Fans der frühen Jahre von Genesis etwas ganz besonderes vorgenommen. Stücke von 1971 bis 1976, die nicht bereits bei seinem ersten Genesis Revisited-Album von 1996 enthalten sind, sollen eine Frischzellen-Kur bekommen! Ein halbes Jahr wird er sich dafür Zeit nehmen und dafür allerlei Gast-Musiker und -Sänger einladen. Unterbrochen wird die Studio-Arbeit zum einen von zwei Gastauftritten im Januar bei John Wetton (bei Real World) und den seit etlichen Jahren weltweit erfolgreichen „Genesis-Klone“ von The Musical Box (bei Watcher Of The Skies), und zum anderen dem zweiten Teil der Braking The Waves– Tour von 10. bis 27. Februar durch England – hier wieder mit Lee Pomeroy am Bass.
Anfang April spielt Steve auch wieder einen gemeinsamen Gig mit Djabe in der Hauptstadt Östereichs, welcher auch mitgeschnitten wird, aber erst 10 Jahre später in Gänze verfügbar sein würde.

Steve Hackett sucht für die geplante Tour seines Genesis-Revisited-Projektes auch einen festen Sänger und entscheidet sich Mitte April für den Schweden Nad Sylvan, der auch bereits auf den Studio-Aufnahmen eingesetzt werden wird. Ansonsten gibt es von April bis Juli noch vereinzelte Auftritte in Italien, Tel Aviv, England und Deutschland – hier unter anderem mit Akteuren der Popakademie Baden-Württemberg. Der Hauptfokus bis Sommer liegt aber ganz klar auf den Aufnahmen zu seinem geplanten Album, oder besser: Doppelalbum! Ganze 21 Titel werden aufgenommen, wovon 17 (inklusive Horizons) aus dem Genesis-Repertoire von 1971 bis 1976 und 4 weitere aus dem Hackett-Solo-Repertoire von 1975 bis 1983 stammen, aber einen Bezug zu Genesis haben.
Neben seiner Stamm-Band beteiligen sich zahlreiche Gäste bei den meist nah an dem Original gehaltenen Neuaufnahmen, darunter alte Bekannte wie Nick Magnus, John Hackett, John Wetton, Phil Mulford oder Nick Beggs, aber auch neuere und ganz neue Kollaborateure wie Collins‘ Sohn Simon Collins, Dave Kerzner, Nik Kershaw, Steven Wilson, Neal Morse, Roine Stolt, Jakko Jakszyk, Jeremy Stacey, Francis Dunnery, Lee Pomeroy, Conrad Keely, Mikael Akerfeldt und eben: Nad Sylvan! Im Juli sind die Aufnahmen für das Doppel-Album Genesis Revisited II abgeschlossen.

Nach den Aufnahmen zu Genesis Revisited II kommt es zu einer ungewöhnlichen Kollaboration von Steve Hackett mit Elizabeth Fraser, der ex-Sängerin von The Cocteau Twins, die bereits auch schon zur Jahrtausendwende auf Peter Gabriels OVO-Album zu hören war und davor für Massive Attack deren größten Hit Teardrop gesungen hatte. Sie und ihr Lebensgefährte Damon Reece von Massive Attack teilen ihre Begeisterung für Genesis‘ The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway und wollen Steve für ihr neues gemeinsames Projekt einbinden. Bei Frazers „Comeback“-Auftritt beim Meltdown Festival Anfang August gibt es einen Vorgeschmack mit einem nur von Steve begleitetem, neuen Song, der erst zehn Jahre später auf Tonträger veröffentlicht werden wird…

Das neue Jahr steht für Steve ganz im Zeichen seiner Genesis Revisited World Tour. Eine kleine Zusammenarbeit gibt es allerdings doch bevor die Tour-Proben beginnen. Die Genesis Revisited World Tour startet schließlich Ende März ganz ungewöhnlich auf karibischer See, beim ersten Cruise To The Edge Festival auf einem Kreuzfahrtschiff, und man hängt noch zwei Gigs auf dem Festland an, bevor es zurück nach Europa geht, wo die Band nun von Mitte April bis Ende Mai in größeren Locations als bisher auftritt. Die Show im legendären Londoner Hammersmith, für die man mit John Wetton, Nik Kershaw, Steve Rothery, Jakko M. Jakszyk und Amanda Lehmann ein paar „special guests“ einlädt, wird für eine Veröffentlichung aufgezeichnet.

Nachdem sich Mitte März das Genesis-LineUp ’71-’75 für die Dokumentation Sum Of The Parts in den Londoner Sunbeam Studios für ein gemeinsames Interview traf, startet Ende März für Steve Hackett und seine Band der (vorerst) letzte Teil der erfolgreichen Genesis Revisited World Tour in den USA mit Abschluss auf dem Kreuzfahrtschiff für’s diesjährige Cruise To The Edge Festival Mitte April. Vom Südwesten der Welt geht’s im Anschluß in den Nordosten mit Gigs in Russland, Estonia, Schweden, Finnland, Norwegen, und schließlich vielen weiteren Ländern in Europa mit einem Finale Ende Mai in Portugal.
Danach ist es für Steve höchste Zeit mit den Arbeiten an einem nächsten Album mit neuem Material beginnen, denn der Herbst ist bereits wegen großer Nachfrage für eine „Verlängerung“ der Tour reserviert.
Unterbrochen werden die Studio-Arbeiten in der zweiten Juli-Hälfte mit drei eigenen Band-Gigs in Italien und drei Auftritte mit Djabe, wovon Ausschnitte vom Óbuda Summer Fest in Budapest veröffentlicht werlden würden…

Wolflight erscheint Ende März, aber die dazugehörige Tour ist erst für den Herbst geplant. Auch 2017 soll ausgiebig getourt werden, da die Nachfrage nach dem Genesis Revisited-Programm anhält. So verwundert es nicht, dass Steve Hackett dem nun etablierten Erfolgs-Konzept ein unmissverständliches Tour-Motto gibt: Genesis Revisited with Classic Hackett! Im Fokus stehen nun das 40-jährige Jubiläum des Genesis-Albums Wind & Wuthering, dem letzten mit Steves Beteiligung, und auch einige neue Solo-Tracks. Die Tour startet bereits Ende Januar bei britischen Giants Of Rock Festival, bevor es zum bereits dritten Mal beim Cruise To The Edge auf die karibische See geht. Im Anschluss bereist die Band noch bis Anfang März Nordamerika.
Bis es in Europa weiter geht nimmt Frontmann Nad Sylvan noch sein neues Album auf, bei dem auch Steve auf vier Tracks zum Einsatz kommt.
