Sound Of Contact Konzert-Rezi in PROG 37

It's easy to get lost in the fact that Sound Of Contact's Simon Collins has a famous dad. Yep, that'll be Phil Collins. So everyone tries to find reasons for comparisons between father and son, especially as both sing and play drums. After a competent yet entertaining opening set from Sweden's Beardfish, however, Sound Of Contact show they have more to offer than the lineage of their frontman. They start and finish the brief performance with Collins behind the drums, for exhaustive instrumentals Möbius Slip, Part One: In The Difference Engine and Cosmic Distance Ladder, and inbetween pace themselves through five other impressive songs from debut album Dimensionaut. The style combines intelligent musicianship with high grade melodic sensibilities, especially apparent on Omega Point and Pale Blue Dot, with the whole band displaying genuine class. So, does Collins Jnr sound like Collins Snr? There's an inevitable influence. But the former also has his own effective timbre and style. All he needs, and deserves, is the chance to prove himself.

Unterschrift:

Something in the hair: Simon 'son of Phil' Collins proves his worth.
