Nach dem Ende der Secret World Tour nutzte Peter Gabriel die nächsten Jahre für vielerlei musikalische Aktivitäten. Sogar mit seinen Exkollegen von Genesis gab es 1995 eine Zusammenarbeit: Für das im Sommer 1998 veröffentlichte Boxset Genesis Archive 1967 ? 1975 nahm er einen Großteil der Gesangsspuren eines Live-Konzerts der Lamb Lies Down On Broadway-Tour neu auf und sang auch bei der erst 1999 veröffentlichten Neueinspielung des Genesis-Songs The Carpet Crawlers. Daneben entstanden zahlreiche Beiträge für Soundtracks, Tribute-Alben, Compilations und Songs befreundeter Künstler...

Drei Songs des OVO-Albums wurden in orchestrierter Fassung 2010/11 für New Blood neu aufgenommen: Father, Son, Downside-Up und The Nest That Sailed The Sky. Letzteres wurde auch für den noch vor UP erscheinenden Soundtrack Long Walk Home in den Tracks A Sense Of Home und The Return Part 2 recycled. Für das nächste "echte" Peter Gabriel-Album mussten Fans noch zwei weitere Jahre warten, obwohl er schon im Jahr 2000 erwähnte, etwa 130 Song vorliegen zu haben - allerdings in sehr unterschiedlichen Produktionsstadien.
